Shimla, is popular with the "Queen of the hills", and the most beautifull city in India. It is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is derives from goddess 'Shayamla Devi', which is another manifestation of Goddess Kali. In the Shimla city, there are the longest narrow gauge railway routes named the Kalka-Shimla Railway which connected to the city of Kalka. Shimla has been blessed with all kind of the natural bounties. The city is fullfilled by panoramic view, when draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters.. The spectacular cool hills accompanied by the structures made during the colonial era make an aura which is very different from other hill stations.

Shimla is located in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft). It is approximately 100 km (68 miles) from Chandigarh, the nearest major city, and 365 km (226.8 miles) from New Delhi

Shimla is the city that have been discovered by the British in 1819. In that time, it was a part of the Nepalese kingdom. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj in India. After Independence, Shimla became the capital of Punjab and was later named the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

Shimla city has an impression for its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings, such as the stately Viceregal Lodge, charming iron lamp posts and Anglo-Saxon names. The main attraction in the Shimla city is the mall which packed with shops and eateries and Scandal Point, associated with the former Maharaja of Patiala's escapades, offers a view of distant snowclad peaks.

1. Prospect Hill in Western Shimla, which has the temple of Kamna Devi
2. Summer Hill in Western Shimla, which has the campus of the Himachal Pradesh University
3. Observatory Hill in Western Shimla, which holds the estate of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study;
4. Invererarm in Western Shimla, whose top has the State Museum;
5. Bantony in central Shimla, which has the Grand Hotel;
6. Jakhoo in central Shimla, which is crowned by the temple indicated to Lord Hanuman, and
7. Elysium in north-western Shimla, which holds Auckland House and Longwood and reaches out towards the Bharari spur.
